Volunteer Opportunities
If you're passionate about community service, care deeply for people and have the time and energy, we'd love to have your help at Longview Regional Medical Center. Volunteering opportunities are available in various departments throughout our hospital. Get in touch, and let's talk about how can help each other.
About the Volunteer Auxiliary
Since 1980, the Volunteer Auxiliary has been one of our most valuable resources and an extension of our Longview Regional Medical Center family. By joining our volunteer family, you gain new skills, meet interesting people, form new friendships and receive the satisfaction of making a difference in other people's lives.
What does a volunteer do?
Volunteers provide support to hospital staff while extending hospitality to patients, family members, and visitors. The Volunteer Auxiliary conducts fundraisers to provide scholarships for graduating high school seniors pursuing a career in healthcare, and support to non-profit community organizations such as Longview Community Ministries, Hope Haven, Highway 80 Rescue Mission, Women's Center and many others.
How can I help?
We try to match your talents and interests with an available volunteer position. Many volunteers join with the desire for patient interaction, but there are many different opportunities depending on your skills and area of interest. Depending upon your assignment, some typical duties might include: greeting visitors, delivering flowers and mail to patients, answering phones and escorting visitors inside the hospital. Primary areas of service include information desks in the hospital and at the 709 medical office, as well as admissions, emergency department, lab, radiology, patient comfort visits, recovery and one-day surgery.
What's in it for me?
- Free meal in the cafeteria on your assigned day.
- Free volunteer uniform jacket or vest.
- Free annual flu vaccination.
- Social activities for volunteers throughout the year, including membership meetings, the CEO birthday breakfast, the hospital's annual employee picnic and an annual awards luncheon honoring our volunteers.
How much volunteer time is required?
Active volunteers are expected to help at least four hours per week. Many volunteers choose to give more time than the minimum. Weekday and weekends are both available, as we try to accommodate all situations.
How can I become a volunteer?
Volunteers must complete an application. Completed applications should be submitted to the volunteer coordinator. Once your application is received, we will follow up to schedule an interview, background check and drug screen.
What type of training is provided?
Every new volunteer attends orientation to learn about hospital policies. Following orientation, each new volunteer is paired with an experienced volunteer until you feel comfortable and familiar with the tasks you'll be performing.
Do volunteers wear a uniform?
Volunteers receive a yellow vest or jacket to wear while at the hospital. The Auxiliary provides one uniform for volunteers. If an additional one is desired, the volunteer must reimburse the Auxiliary. Women should wear a white blouse under the yellow jacket or vest; white, light gray, or khaki slacks or skirts; and white shoes (tennis shoes are permitted) with natural hose or white socks. Men should wear a white shirt under the yellow jacket with white, light gray or khaki trousers. White socks are to be worn with white shoes (tennis shoes are permitted).
