Longview Regional Medical Center Acquires the Most Advanced Robotic Surgery System in East Texas
5/5/2025
(Longview, Texas) May 5, 2025 – Longview Regional Medical Center is proud to announce the addition of a sophisticated robotic-assisted surgical system available today, providing minimally invasive care in East Texas.
“This technology allows patients of Longview Regional Medical Center to benefit from minimally invasive procedures. It can enhance efficiency and lead to better outcomes overall,” said Keith Ellison, chief nurse officer of Longview Regional Medical Center.
The robotic system, now available at Longview Regional, may offer significant advancements for general surgery and is also used in urology, colorectal and gynecology. It features over 150 enhancements compared to previous models, including:
- Force-sensing technology that allows surgeons to feel the pressure applied at the instrument tip, providing greater precision when handling delicate tissue.
- Enhanced 3D imaging with true-color visualization for improved depth perception and anatomical detail.
- Improved ergonomics for surgeon comfort and performance throughout procedures.
Unlike traditional robotic systems that relied solely on visual cues, this modern system gives real-time force feedback, often allowing for more controlled movements and reduced tissue trauma. Studies show the upgraded system significantly reduces the amount of force exerted during surgery.
As with all robotic-assisted procedures, the surgeon remains 100% in control. Their hand movements are translated into smaller, more precise movements of instruments inside the patient’s body—generally resulting in less pain, smaller incisions, and faster recovery.
