Vitamin-Packed Foods for Good Hare Days
It's no secret that our hair health declines as we age, making it harder to maintain beautiful, soft tresses. Those changes can typically be attributed to two primary factors—
hormones and environment. While hormones can cause thinning and decrease oils that keep our hair healthy, environmental factors like humidity, wind and sun exposure also can contribute to premature aging, leaving hair dry, brittle or dull.
However, the right bunny-friendly foods can help prevent hair damage, strengthen your strands, promote growth and add shine. Try these vitamin-packed foods for luscious locks:
Carrots.
with at least a 30 sun protection factor (SPF). This veggie is something we associate with rabbits for a good reason. Carrots are full of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that can help improve hair growth, prevent hair loss and strengthen hair follicles. Carrots contain vitamin E and beta-carotene, which are converted into vitamin A in the body. Vitamin A and E are essential for a healthy scalp, which is important because studies show that the skin on the scalp can age six to twelve times faster than the skin on our faces. However, to benefit from carrots, eat them raw or lightly cooked, as heating can reduce their nutritional content.
Berries.
This fruit is good for your hair because berries are rich in vitamin C, which helps to strengthen hair follicles, promote hair growth and improve scalp circulation. In addition to vitamin C, berries contain folate, biotin, and riboflavin. Folate helps to nourish the scalp, biotin strengthens the hair shaft, and riboflavin helps to maintain scalp health. Those are some berry good benefits!
Spinach.
This leafy green is a nutrient-dense source of vitamins A, C and E. Vitamin A helps keep hair naturally moisturized, while vitamin C helps to build collagen, giving strength and shine to your locks. Vitamin E, however, works as an antioxidant to protect the scalp and hair from UV rays, pollution and free radicals. Spinach is also high in calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc and omega-3 fatty acids that encourage healthy hair growth, strengthen follicles, hydrate strands and provide shine. Spinach is a true powerhouse!
Challenge yourself to add more of these foods to your diet. The reward could be better hare days.
