Longview Regional Medical Center began our bariatric program in 2004. We are the first hospital in Longview to offer a weight loss surgery program. Previously patients were required to travel to Tyler, Shreveport, or further to obtain these life-changing procedures, such as gastric bypass. Jason P. Suits, MD, bariatric and general surgeon, serves as the program’s medical director.
Bariatric surgery has proven to be effective by improving the health of individuals and controlling many obesity-related conditions. Bariatric surgery procedures are only done when deemed medically necessary and all non-surgical options have been exhausted.
Surgery is just the beginning of the journey to a healthier life. Adaptation to life after weight loss surgery is ongoing. Our monthly support group provides a secure, warm setting for patients undergoing the process of lifetime; lifestyle changes do improve surgery outcomes and are necessary to achieve enduring weight loss.
