Volunteer Auxiliary
Thank you for your interest in the Longview Regional Medical Center Volunteer Auxiliary. Since 1980, volunteers have been one of our most valuable resources and an extension of our LRMC family. Their kind smile, words of encouragement, and loving comfort are powerful tools that help patients get well, and we highly value their contribution to our goal of achieving medical excellence. When joining the volunteer family, you gain new skills, meet interesting people, form new friendships and receive the satisfaction of making a difference in other people's lives.
What is the purpose of the Volunteer program?
Volunteers provide support to hospital staff while extending hospitality to patients, family members, and visitors. The Volunteer Auxiliary raises money from book, jewelry and other fund raisers. These funds provide scholarships, which are awarded annually to graduating high school seniors pursuing a career in healthcare. In addition, they provide monetary donations to many non-profit community organizations such as Longview Community Ministries, Hope Haven, Highway 80 Rescue Mission, Women’s Center and many others.
As a volunteer, what would I do and where would I be?
Every effort is made to match your talents and interests with an available volunteer position. Although many volunteers join our service with the desire for patient interaction, positions are not limited to these assignments. Many positions require little or no patient contact. Depending upon your assignment, some typical duties might include: greeting visitors, delivering flowers and mail to patients, answering phones, and escorting visitors inside the hospital. Primary areas of service include the Information Desk in the hospital and at the 707 and 709 medical offices, Emergency, ICU Waiting, One Day Surgery, Patient Comfort Visits, Admissions and many others.
What are the benefits of volunteering?
- A free meal in the cafeteria on the volunteer’s assigned day.
- Free volunteer uniform jacket or vest.
- Free annual flu vaccination.
- The opportunity to participate in social activities planned for volunteers throughout the
year, including five general membership meetings. Volunteers also receive invitations to
the CEO birthday luncheon and hospital employee week picnic.
- Awards luncheon each April honoring volunteers.
- If 50 or over, free Senior Circle membership after one year of volunteer service.
How much volunteer time is required?
Active volunteers are expected to provide service a minimum of four per week. Many volunteers, however, choose to give more than the minimum. Weekday and weekends are available as we try to accommodate all situations.
What type of training is provided?
Every new volunteer must attend orientation which includes an explanation of hospital policies and codes. Following orientation, each new volunteer is paired with an experienced volunteer until the new volunteer is comfortable and familiar with necessary tasks.
Do I need to purchase a uniform?
No. The Auxiliary provides the uniform. If an additional one is desired, the volunteer must reimburse the Auxiliary.
